tough love

This piece took a lot of breather to do. First, I was swamped with work, so I have to do this piecemeal. Since we're off to a holiday, I thought of finishing this one. Now that I'm done with excuses, on to my description...

This was conceived on Feb 14, where Valentine's shares the date with the Chinese New Year. Since I'm single, I went to Chinatown and spent the day with my mom. Like we always do. I noticed that even in the area, Valentine's seems favored by the locals. It sucks that I have to visualize this one happening. Oh well.

This was first drawn with pencil and then *gasp* inked! Notice that the lines are pretty clean this time. Next was I did the preliminary shadowing, so I would know how to color the entire piece. I chose a subdued tint for the lion dancer so as to let the drama of shadows take its turn.
